Even though Marcus Rashford had one assist and two goals in Manchester United’s win over Arsenal, undoubtedly making him the man of the match, it’s hard not to speak about Antony’s debut as well.
The Brazilian had barely arrived at his new club and was already included in the starting line-up which would face the team who were unbeaten this season.
That didn’t really seem to put much pressure on him, as it only took him 35 minutes to open the score with his first goal for the Red Devils.
Following the 3-1 win, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag had a word with the Dutch media after Sunday’s game.
The local press had obviously been curious about Antony, as he insisted in making the move from Ajax this summer, and when speaking of the 22-year-old, he praised the ‘excellent’ debut from the winger, pointing out his good chemistry with right-back Diogo Dalot.
“It’s Antony’s first time on the team, although he and Dalot sat together before the game to talk about their collaboration,” ten Hag told Viaplay (via Voetbal International).
“They filled it out well. The advantage is that they both speak Portuguese, so communication is good in that regard. From this point on, he has to get stronger and he will be, because he has the potential.”
“Of course he had nerves for this match, but healthy nerves. He can perform very well under stress and we have seen that.”
Following their four straight wins in the Premier League, Manchester United now prepare for their first challenge in Europa League this season, as they receive Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday.
