Signed for big money this summer by Chelsea, Kalidou Koulibaly didn’t take long to make his way into Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

In fact, he started from the off in the 1-0 win against Everton, and has started every game he has been eligible for since, having had to sit out the 2-1 victory over Leicester City due to suspension.

While he even scored against Tottenham, the new Chelsea signing has also shown signs of struggle here and there, especially in the 3-0 loss to Leeds United towards the end of August.

He was sent off after picking up two yellows in that game, and he also was far from his best in the 2-1 loss to Southampton.

His struggle for consistency has been similar to Chelsea’s as a whole, and ex-England manager Fabio Capello believes he knows why this is happening.

Speaking to Sky Calcio Club, relayed by Tutto Napoli, he said: “I would like to talk about Koulibaly’s difficulties at Chelsea. At Napoli, he directed, sang and carried the cross. He did everything himself. The difficulty this player has at Chelsea is down to the speed with which they play in England. The same speed with which Udinese put Roma in difficulty. This must make us think.”

So, the belief here seems to be that while Koulibaly might not be playing his best football right now with Stamford Bridge, it could all get better for the Chelsea summer signing going forward once he adapts fully.

We’ll have to wait and see.
