The Netherlands international’s contract lasts until 2025 and he’s requesting a salary of €5m per year to sign an extension. Simone Inzaghi’s side, on the other hand, haven’t gone beyond €4m.
The abolition of the Growth Decree tax benefits makes it more complicated for the Serie A side, who won’t make an improved offer to the right-back. Salary figures in Italy are usually reported after tax, and negotiations are on that basis, meaning to pay €4-5m to a player now costs more than it has in recent years.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich have ‘expressed interest’ in the 27-year-old. The report further adds the two clubs could ‘come forward’ and take advantage of his contract situation.
Both the Red Devils and the Bundesliga winners won’t have problems making a good offer to meet the Italian club’s request.
FcInterNews add Manchester United in particular are seriously considering signing the Dutchman because Erik ten Hag ‘loves him’. If it were up to the coach, he would already have his compatriot at Old Trafford, according to the report.
There’s been some concerns over Ten Hag’s future and if he were to continue next season, the report says there’s a ‘very high’ chance of seeing Dumfries at Manchester United.
