Leandro Trossard has enjoyed a good start to the campaign with Brighton & Hove Albion, managing seven goals and three assists from 13 league games.
This includes a hattrick against Liverpool at Anfield and a goal each against Manchester City and Chelsea.
The winger finished the previous season by finding the back of the net against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. The Belgium international has now spoken about his good form in this calendar year.
“It went very well at the end of last season, but now the goals are added. I feel really good and I think it shows on the pitch,” he told De Morgen.
“For me it started really well in March with De Rode Duivels against Burkina Faso, with that goal and an assist. Since then, it has been on the rise in terms of statistics. Our way of playing football at Brighton also puts me in a promising position more often.”
On his scoring record against the top teams, the 27-year-old said: “I think in general we get a lot more space in those games. They also want to play football and create opportunities. As a result, they often leave space between the lines, and I can regularly benefit from that.”
Trossard’s form for Brighton is likely to see him picked by Roberto Martínez for the 2022 World Cup. His deal with the Seagulls runs down at the end of this season and they retain an option to further extend it by a year.
When asked whether the World Cup can ‘play a role in a transfer’, he said: “If I hadn’t already shown my qualities in the Premier League, the World Cup would have been the ideal platform to show myself to the rest of the world.
Martínez had earlier stated Trossard should showcase his qualities not only at Brighton, but also at international level.
The national team manager’s comments indicated the attacker should make a move away from The Amex. The player, however, shares a different view on this subject.
“If you score a hat-trick against Liverpool and score against Manchester City and Chelsea, isn’t that the level of the Champions League? I have shown that I can also perform at a high level against the world’s top players. And I can only show it to De Rode Duivels if he lets me play of course. I have always enjoyed the moments I had with the national team,” he stressed.
Gazet van Antwerpen have also interviewed Trossard and when asked about his future, he said: “I’m waiting”.
Brighton have an option to keep the player until the end of the 2023/24 season and GVA pressed the Belgian to detail his plans beyond 2024.
“If something interesting comes my way, I’ll listen. But I don’t have to leave. I am in a very good team, which also has the ambition to reach European football in the short term. I’m fine here,” he said. 
“The context [wanting to take next step] is completely different. At Genk I was ‘only’ in Belgium – I say that with all due respect for the Belgian competition. Well, the world might look different after the World Cup. If there is concrete interest, you will hear it, surely?”
