Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has been warned it ‘would be very unwise’ to leave the Dutch club for Leeds United at this point in the season.
Slot has emerged as one of the candidates to replace Jesse Marsch at Elland Road after the American was sacked earlier this week.
Reports in England have made it clear that he is among the candidates being looked at after leading Feyenoord to top of the Eredivisie after 20 games.
That’s earned him plenty of attention and the links to Leeds but Soccer News journalist Bjorn Thimister argues today that a move to the Premier League would be ill advised.
He states that the 44-year-old has ‘surprised everyone’ with his performances this season, performing the ‘near impossible’ and creating a team that plays ‘most good football’ that is attractive to watch from players who clearly want to work for each other.
He has made this side a team and managed to ‘transfer his tactical inspirations’ on to them, hence the interest from Leeds and others.
But moving to Elland Park would be too much of a risk, with the potential downside to it far ‘too high’ for him to risk ruining what he has achieved so far this season. That work in Rotterdam-Zuid is ‘not yet finished’ either.
If he completes it there is no doubt that he will get a nice job abroad elsewhere anyway, so there is no need to rush to Leeds.
That move would be ‘unwise’ as far as he is concerned, the risk is ‘too high’ and he would leave Feyenoord ‘with a void’ they probably wouldn’t be able to fill.
