With Tottenham announcing late on Sunday night that they had parted ways with Antonio Conte, the Italian media didn’t have much time to put anything in their print newspapers.
We’ll likely have to wait until Tuesday for that, but there are some in Italy talking to websites about the decision, with former Napoli director Carlo Jacomuzzi asked by Napoli Magazine what his thoughts were on the matter.
He didn’t waste time to lay the blame on pretty much everyone else but the now former Tottenham manager, highlighting in particular one group of people.
Jacomuzzi said: “I feel bad because a manager like Conte at the helm of a strong team like Tottenham was a source of pride for our country The manager’s statements were strong, but you must remember that England is, in this sense, a tabloid nation.
“English newspapers are inclined to cover the scandal. They always try to make a scene and identify a culprit. I do not exclude, however, that the recent physical problems also influenced the final decision. He may’ve lost continuity in managing the collective. Conte is not 100% a professional, but 1000%.”
While there’s no denying that Conte’s quotes after Tottenham’s draw against Southampton were heavily covered by the English media, there’s also a huge amount of irony in what Jacomuzzi says, as the Italian media are as volatile as the one on these shores.
They have always tried to talk about a potential return to Italy almost as soon as he was appointed to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, and every move he made was highly scrutinised.
Either way, Conte is now gone from Tottenham, and Daniel Levy will now be charged, alongside Fabio Paratici, to replace him.
