Swansea City are a firm contender in the race to sign AaB Fodbold’s Melker Widell in the winter market.

The midfielder has been a regular for the Danish club this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions. Widell’s contract lasts until 2026, but his immediate future could be at another club.

Tipsbladet now state AaB have informed the ‘stock exchange’ that they are in negotiations with a foreign club for the 22-year-old’s transfer.

The Swede’s employer hasn’t confirmed the details of the club they are negotiating with.

Sweden’s Sportbladet now cover Swansea City’s desire to sign the player in this window. Their title says the Welsh club have made a ‘huge bid’ to secure Widell’s services.

Within the report, it’s claimed Luke Williams’ side have already tabled an offer worth SEK 50m [£3.65m] including bonuses.

Swansea City aren’t the only foreign club showing interest in signing the Swede. The report says several other clubs are set to table proposals, without mentioning their details.

AaB have officially confirmed negotiations with an unnamed foreign club, and this is likely to be Swansea City.
