Turkish news outlet Aspor have today claimed Fenerbahce are showing interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley ahead of the summer transfer window, and may look to take him away from Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Fener will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season as it seems they will fall just short in their quest to finish above Galatasaray in the Super Lig. It’s expected some players will leave this summer and subsequently they will be looking to bring in new recruits ahead of next season.
Aspor report the Yellow Canaries are following the Celtic player closely. The Istanbul side are said to be looking to reinforce their midfield this summer and the Denmark international is on their radar.
However, as often, there may be some Turkish optimism here which has got. little carried away. Rodgers probably doesn’t want to lose the player, and when it comes to it there’s got to be doubt over whether Fenerbahce would pay up.
Aspor even say it’s a surprise that O’Riley is a target for Fenerbahce, so perhaps even the Turkish media feel this one is a long shot.
O’Riley has made 44 appearances for Celtic this season, scoring 14 goals. He’s contracted to the Scottish champions until June 2027.
