Jürgen Klopp has helped Liverpool become one of the dominant forces in England and in Europe.
The German manager was instrumental in helping the Reds win the Champions League in 2019 and the following season, he guided them to their first ever Premier League title.
In the summer of 2019, the Merseyside club took two youngsters, Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott, while goalkeeper Adrián arrived at Anfield on a free transfer.
AS on Friday have a report stating the Premier League side failed in their efforts to sign Athletic Club Bilbao star Iñaki Williams in 2019.
The newspaper is focusing on the forward and his brother, Nico Williams, ahead of the Basque club’s Copa del Rey quarter-final clash against Real Madrid later today. Towards the end of the report, Liverpool are tagged.
It’s claimed Klopp’s side were ‘willing to put’ his then release clause of €88m on the table, before he signed a new deal in August 2019. Iñaki’s current deal runs down in 2028 and includes a buyout clause of €135m.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, who are still at Liverpool, were leading the club’s attacking division during the 2019/20 season. Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri, along with January 2020 signing Takumi Minamino, were Klopp’s other attacking options for that campaign.
Considering the players that were available at Klopp’s disposal for the 2019/20 season, it is surprising that Liverpool were then willing to pay €88m for Iñaki Williams.
