Sunderland have UD Almería’s Luis Suárez on their agenda and this has been reported in Spain, Portugal and England.
On July 3rd, Diario de Almería reported the striker is expected to leave this summer and the Spanish club have set a €25m price. They also stated the Black Cats are willing to offer a fee close to their request.
Sporting have the Sunderland target as their main option to replace Viktor Gyökeres, if the latter is sold. Three days ago, O Jogo reported the English club have held negotiations to snatch Suárez from the Lions’ clutches.
Ideal.es now report the 27-year-old’s desire is to join Sporting and negotiations are advanced. Despite this, the Primeira Liga side can’t proceed until they offload Gyökeres, who is determined to join Arsenal.
The Gunners haven’t found an agreement with Sporting yet and therefore, the operation to take Suárez to Portugal has stalled.
Sunderland have already made contact and ‘remain vigilant’ to the developments. Recent claims from the UK have stated Régis Le Bris’ side have made an offer close to the Spanish club’s request of €25m.
Ideal.es relay that and then give their own take. Those close to Suárez believe Sunderland’s project is ‘not ideal at a competitive level’. The English club, therefore, have to convince him to stand a chance of securing his services.
Sporting’s delay to sell Gyökeres provides Sunderland a window to try and move forward to sign Suárez.
