Mika’s transfer to Sunderland continues to be a big subject in the Portuguese press. With the end of the transfer window, this is the only thing actually happening in the market, so all attentions is on the former Boavista goalkeeper.
The 25-year-old gave an interview to Notícias ao Minuto on Thursday and commented on all the process of signing for the Black Cats.
Asked about when the bid arrived. Mika said: “Around three or four days before the close of the market. It caught me a bit by surprise, even though I always believed that someday I would be able to make the jump. It’s what I most wanted and I worked for it”.
The goalkeeper praised his old club and said they were great during the sale: “Boavista were fantastic. I only have good things to say. I was always told that if the offer was good for the player and good for the club, they would always agree. Since the beginning they showed great interest in sorting things, not only for them, but also a lot for me.
“I’ve always been a great professional. I didn’t play for several times and always continued to do my job. I have always given my best and Boavista end up saying that I deserve it and they’re very happy for what I achieved. The club helped me and fortunately it happened.”
On his first steps at his new club, Mika seems to be taking it easy: “For now, I want to be able to adapt myself well because I know I’ll go through a difficult stage. Of course I want to train well, do my best and, if possible, debut in the Premier League.
“I think it’s something all professional football players dream about. It’s one of the most competitive leagues, everyone follows it and everyone wants to play there.”
