Sunderland secured promotion to the Premier League after overcoming Sheffield United in the Championship playoff final last month. They now have to work on reshaping their squad for next season.

The Black Cats are looking to further improve the centre-back position in the summer window.

That’s at least what Africa Foot are reporting, and they state Sunderland are eyeing Stade de Reims’ Cédric Kipré.

The Paris-born defender arrived in the UK when Leicester City signed him in 2014. Since then, he’s spent majority of the playing career in the UK before returning to France to join Stade de Reims in July of last year.

Kipré was a regular for the French club this season, playing 34 games in all competitions, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Stade de Reims have been relegated and the centre-back represents a ‘valuable asset’ to help them make cash. When discussing his suitors, Sunderland are mentioned and Africa Foot state they are ‘particularly interested’ in signing him.

Régis Le Bris’ side consider him a ‘serious option’ to strengthen their defence for next season. Kipré’s experience of playing in the UK could work in his favour when deciding his future.

His contract lasts until 2027, but the report states everything indicate Kipré is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave in the summer window. Sunderland could take advantage of this to secure his services.
