Sporting CP have reportedly made another step in order to make the permanent signing of Sebastian Coates from Sunderland.
According to Portuguese newspaper Record, the defender is keen on accepting to reduce part of his salary so he can fit into Sporting’s wage bill, which is rather fortunate for the club.
It’s been a while since the Lions have decided that they would pay the €5m that was previously agreed with Sunderland during the loan negotiations.
But the €200k a month earned at the Stadium of Light was considered to be too high, so Coates needed some convincing before sitting to talk with Sporting.
The new deal is said to be on the table is a five-year contract which the player is very close to signing.
Despite not being a big success at either Liverpool or Sunderland, Coates has turned out to be a very important player for Sporting, having already started 14 games this season.
