Lamine Kone joined Sunderland from Ligue 2 side Lorient in 2016 and has seen the Black Cats being relegated twice in the past two seasons.
The English club dropped to the Championship last season from the Premier League, only to drop even further to the League One.
Today’s edition of French newspaper L’Equipe claims the Ivory Coast international is on the verge of a move to Ligue 1.
Strasbourg are looking to take the 29-year-old on a loan deal, with a purchase option. Reports on Tuesday, from France’s RMC, stated that a loan agreement had been found between the two clubs and Kone would today go through his medical.
L’Equipe add some detail and say there’s a purchase option in the loan deal which will allow Strasbourg to buy the player for around €2m.
Earlier claims of Kone having a medical and completing his move today are also backed up in Wednesday’s report.
