Over the past few months, there has been a reported Manchester United interest in Villarreal’s Pau Torres.
The Spaniard’s ability was on full display to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. on Wednesday night when Unai Emery’s side beat the Red Devils on penalties in the Europa League final, and the game will only have reinforced why clubs are keen to acquire the 24-year-old.
As well as Manchester United, Napoli have made the defender a target of theirs as they expect Kalidou Koulibaly to finally leave the club, but it appears he might be too expensive for the Serie A side.
CalcioNapoli24 have an exclusive on Friday afternoon, claiming there have ‘only been informal contacts’ between the Italians and Villarreal where Aurelio De Laurentiis’ side asked ‘what the conditions would be’.
That’s when they were taken aback, told that he could only leave for his release clause, currently standing at €65m, although they feel his ‘true market value would be estimated between €40-45m’.
While Torres’ intention ‘would be to stay at Villarreal’, a ‘transfer to the Premier League cannot be excluded’.
It’s specified that ‘concrete offers for the player have in fact come from England, the only league that could snatch Torres from the Yellow Submarine at the moment’.
That would suggest Manchester United have the upper hand, at least when it comes to a battle against Napoli, for the centre-back’s signing.
