Last month, Unai Emery publicly spoke about Aston Villa’s interest in Villarreal’s Juan Foyth.

The manager knows the defender from his time at the La Liga club and wants to reunite with him at Villa Park in the winter market.

Recent claims from the Spanish media stated Aston Villa made an offer, but they didn’t advance with this operation. That’s because the Villans cooled their interest in the 27-year-old and have been looking at other targets.

Monday’s edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo states the Yellow Submarine want to close the signing of Napoli’s Rafa Marín. They have a deal in place with the Naples club, but Antonio Conte doesn’t want to give the green light until he secures a replacement.

The Spanish club are working on improving their defence before the window closes later today. At the same time, the report states there’s uncertainty around Foyth

El Periódico Mediterráneo state it’s unknown if the Argentina international will continue at the club or if Aston Villa will revive their interest and make an approach on deadline day.

Earlier claims indicated Foyth was close to Aston Villa before they ended their pursuit. It would be a surprise if the Villans were to sign him today.

The report states: ‘A move that seemed close a week ago is now up to the Birmingham club.’
