In the summer of 2015, Leicester City agreed a record fee to sign Charles Aranguiz from Internacional.
The Brazilian club were all for the move and between them and the Foxes everything was agreed. There were announcements in the world’s sport media about the agreement being made and then it was considered a matter of time before Aranguiz ended up at Leicester and in the Premier League.
However, news then filtered that the player would actually be moving to Bayer Leverkusen, and Chile’s La Cuarta say his agent had a big part in that.
The move to Leverkusen was pushed despite the English option being ‘much more economically advantageous’.
However, the German club’s sporting manager Jonas Boldt has spoken to La Cuarta and made it clear he thinks that same agent is now holding up a renewal.
Boldt is quoted as saying: “I repeat, we want him to stay. Ask his people why we could not reach an agreement.”
Leicester City bounced back well from the disappointment, winning the Premier League title.
