Former Leeds United forward Marcus Antonsson is grabbing the headlines in the Swedish media following his recent form for his new club Malmo, in a deal described as a ‘successful acquisition’.
The 27 year old signed for the Allsvenskan champions this summer after two years at Leeds United.
Fotboll Direkt have reported on Antonsson’s impact since arriving at Malmo in July and in particular his contribution to the Swedish club reaching the group stages of the Europa League.
The attacker scored the crucial opening goal in last night’s clash with Danish side Midtjylland as Malmo progressed to the next stage of the competition 4-2 on aggregate.
It’s reported this could be worth 50m Krona (£4.2m) to Antonsson’s new club and his goal in Denmark was his fourth in as many games.
The form he’s shown since returning to his home country is in total contrast to the performances he showed in his debut season at Leeds United. After a promising start to his Elland Road career his displays tailed off as the season went on, and his chances of games wasn’t helped by the scoring exploits of Chris Wood.
Subsequently he was loaned to Blackburn Rovers last season and despite returning to Leeds United in the summer it always seemed he was surplus to requirements with the Championship club.
Under Uwe Rosler the player has found his scoring touch and he’ll be hoping to kick on from here.
