Youssef En-Nesyri’s refusal to join West Ham United from Sevilla scuppered a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Aït-Nouri this month.

That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla, who say the Moroccan forward’s ‘refusal to leave’ for the London Stadium broke the ‘established plan’ at Sevilla.

They explain that the Spanish club’s financial difficulties have made life difficult for them in this transfer window, in which a remodel of the squad is seen as a necessity.

The club had thought they could count on a sale to give them the necessary means to attack the market and En Nesyri was the one earmarked for a sale.

West Ham’s latest bid for him would have satisfied their needs financially and allowed them to sign the players they want but he refused to join the Hammers again and that ruined the plan in place.

Sevilla had been planning to use the money they’d get from West Ham to sign several players and one of them had been Wolves defender Rayan Aït-Nouri.

He was out of the picture under Julen Lopetegui and would have been an ideal signing to cover the injured Alex Telles, thus providing him with ‘more opportunities’ than he was getting at Molineux.

But while Sevilla had to wait before they could move he forced his way into Lopetegui’s plans and managed to impress too, meaning he will now be staying in the Premier League for the time being as a part of the Spanish coach’s squad.

That’s a blow for Sevilla, who are now trying to work out a new plan to give Jorge Sampaoli the players he wants after En Nesyri’s latest refusal to join West Ham ruined the original strategy.
