Earlier today we brought you comments from Italian journalist Enzo Bucchioni, who claimed Mario Mandzukic was looking to join Manchester United in January.
The Croatian was linked with a move to United all summer but ultimately elected to stay at Juventus and fight for a place under Maurizio Sarri.
He’s found life under the former Chelsea boss tough, though, with Sarri preferring other options and Mandzukic yet to make an appearance this season.
The striker recently turned down a move to Qatar and Bucchioni claimed that was because Manchester United have been in touch and a move to Old Trafford is on the cards in the January transfer window.
Sport Mediaset have now backed up those claims, saying Mandzukic would ‘prefer to move to the Premier League’ in January, than move to Qatar.
They explain he’s in a stalemate with Juventus and both parties have decided to take a break and ‘make the best decision’.
Manchester United are apparently ‘in the background’ as they are still looking for reinforcements with Marcus Rashford injured and Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both departing the club this summer.
There’s no mention of how much United would want to pay for Mandzukic, but given he’s 33, Sarri doesn’t want him and is keen on the move, a deal is there to be done.
