Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira was presented today by Flamengo, who are taking him on a one-year loan spell.

The 25-year-old spoke to the Brazilian press about the move and made it clear how happy he is to have signed with the Rio de Janeiro side.

“It was a very important project. The biggest club in South America is difficult for you to listen to. Even with the proposals from Europe, it was a very easy choice. My head and my focus have always been on Flamengo,” said Andreas Pereira (via Globo Esporte).

The midfielder revealed that Flamengo had been in touch for his signing since June, and he’d already decided that he’d like the move to Rio de Janeiro.

“Since the first time Marcos and Bruno spoke to me, back in June, it was very interesting and I told my father and agent that the desire to come to Flamengo was big. They did the impossible and I can only thank them for being here.”

Manchester United and Flamengo had at first agreed a deal where the Rio de Janeiro side would pay a fee of €1m and cover 60% of the player’s salary. However, when he landed in Brazil on Friday night, Globo Esporte reported that there was a ‘final adjustment’ to the agreement. That means Pereira was loaned for free and his new club will be responsible for his entire wages.

Last week, Sport Witness featured a piece explaining why the player won’t have an easy job to succeed at Flamengo.
