When the Champions League is in full swing, it’s almost inevitable we’ll hear of English football fans doing something wrong and this week it’s Liverpool’s turn.
Their fans have travelled in force to Madrid for the second leg of their last 16 clash with the reigning champions, looking to overturn that disappointing 5-2 defeat at Anfield in the first leg.
Ahead of that game it’s been the usual party atmosphere in the Spanish capital and that has led to what we’ll only assume was an innocent slip of the mind.
Mundo Deportivo report that the National Police have ‘arrested two Liverpool fans’, aged 73 and 71, after they tried to leave the Commo nightclub in Madrid without paying their bill.
That bill was worth a whopping €2,200 after they had downed 90 glasses of champagne in what sounds like an epic party.
The report explains that the two Liverpool fans racked up a bill worth €1000 in their ‘first round’ of drinking before they then continued to ‘invite everyone who approached them’ to join the celebrations until they hit 90 glasses of champagne worth €2,200.
Mundo then state that they perhaps got ‘tired of being so prodigal’ and decided to leave, without paying but with ‘all the peace of mind in the world’.
It’s said that when questioned by the staff they then turned aggressive, which led the nightclub to call the police, who duly arrested the Liverpool fans and accused them of fraud.
What will happen to the pair remains to be seen, with Mundo not providing any details on that front for the time being.
We assume there will be a hefty slap on the wrist, a fine to go with it and of course that bill for a party the pair are not going to forget for quite some time.
