Given how quickly Leeds United replaced Marcelo Bielsa with Jesse Marsch, it was likely efforts were being made in the background whilst the Argentine coach was still in place at Elland Road.
The club was in danger of being relegated to the Championship, and in a desperate move to save their Premier League status, the difficult decision was made to show Bielsa the door.
Inevitably, the decision received a mixed response, given the legend Bielsa built for himself in a relatively short period of time with the Yorkshire club.
Leeds United now find themselves eight points clear of the relegation zone, and whilst there’s been bumps in the road for Marsch along the way, the decision to appoint him doesn’t seem to have been a bad one.
On Wednesday, Marca bring a report saying Real Madrid legend Raul was also in the frame for the job. It’s explained Leeds ‘knocked on the door’ for the Spaniard, who is currently the coach of Los Blancos’ Castilla youth team.
For whatever reason, things didn’t progress. Marca insist Raul doesn’t want to leave Real Madrid right now and has snubbed approaches from Schalke and Eintracht Frankfurt.
