In the winter market, Southampton were one of the clubs to have showed interest in Juventus’ Matias Soulé, who is currently on loan at Frosinone.

On deadline day, the Saints let Carlos Alcaraz join Juve on a loan deal with an option to buy. A day later, Gazzetta dello Sport indicated the Serie A side have an idea of carrying out a swap deal involving him and Soulé.

This is backed up by Calciomercato, who state Juventus signed the Southampton man on a €4m loan deal and the redemption option is set at €46m.

Southampton could use the 20-year-old winger as a bargain chip to reduce the cost of the deal for Alcaraz. This deal would depend on the Championship side returning to the top flight.

Russell Martin’s side are currently second in the table, a point ahead of Leeds United, who are third in the table.

The Argentine U21 international attacker has impressed at Frosinone this season, scoring 10 goals and registering two assists from 24 games. Their chairman, Guido Angelozzi, has hailed Soulé as “player with a crazy potential”.

There are sirens for Soulé from England and Southampton’s chances of securing his services in the summer would improve if they return to the Premier League.
