Southampton have seen a €10m offer for midfielder Carlos Alcaraz rejected, with Racing Club determined to get a fee closer to his €25m release clause.
That’s according to El Esquiu, who say the Saints offered an initial deal worth €10m plus a bonus of €1m if certain objectives were met.
Racing’s leadership, headed by Víctor Blanco, ‘dismissed the proposal’ but they are continuing negotiations with Southampton to ‘try to get a little more money’.
That’s because the midfielder’s exit clause is €25m and they want to get as close to that figure as possible if the player is to depart.
The next few hours ‘will be key’ to see if a deal can be struck but all parties are interested in reaching an agreement this month.
At this moment it appears that Southampton will have to significantly increase their offer, with a report at the end of last month stating that Racing wanted €18m for the midfielder.
Whether that’s a figure the Saints want to pay remains to be seen, but negotiations are certainly underway.
