Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia has been linked with a switch to the Premier League over the last few transfer windows, but nothing has really materialised for the Italian defender.
The 28-year-old hasn’t been playing regularly for Inter, and the Serie A club are also keen on offloading him and his wages.
According to Italian media outlet Premium Sports (via Inter News), Southampton have showed interest in signing Ranocchia in the last few hours.
Without revealing details, Premium Sports claim the Premier League side want to sign the defender in January.
Southampton’s interest in Ranocchia at least makes some sense with Virgil van Dijk picking up an injury, with worries he could be out for months, but it still remains to be seen if interest is genuine.
A couple of days ago, Italian website Gazzetta dello Sport reported West Ham and Hull City are also keen on Ranocchia.
The defender has been linked to around half the Premier League’s clubs and often the claims make little sense. This Southampton one does, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s true, it could well be an assumption, but it would still be a pretty reasonable assumption.
