Southampton are ‘very interested’ in KRC Genk strike Paul Onuachu and have offered €12m for the Nigerian striker.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who say the first bid from Southampton has been rejected by the Belgian club.
The Saints are busy adding to their squad this month as Nathan Jones looks for additions to help aid their battle against relegation.
Adding goals to their game is key and they have already sign Mislav Oršić in that regard. It seems they don’t believe that is enough, though, and are looking for more.
That’s apparently seen them turn to Onuachu and they have already made a €12m offer for the player.
That bid has been instantly rejected by Genk, whose management want to keep the striker until the end of the season and continue their fight for the title in the Jupiler Pro League.
Whether that is enough to put off Southampton remains to be seen, while the player’s wishes will surely come into the mix.
Onuachu has long been looking for a move to the Premier League and made it clear he would like it over the last few years and Southampton are now offering that to him.
It’s a situation to keep an eye on either way, with Southampton’s initial interest being dismissed out of hand for the time being.
