After a few days in early June when articles stated Southampton were getting close to signing Romain Perraud, things went a little quiet for a couple of weeks.

The left-back is on his way out of Stade Brestois in France, and while Leeds United were said to be on the case, it appears the Saints are the ones who will come out victorious.

Taking to their live blog, RMC Sport are reporting, via their journalist Loic Tanzi, that things are ‘moving forward’ between Brest and Southampton regarding the Frenchman’s transfer.

In fact, the 23-year-old ‘should leave in the next few weeks’, with negotiations ‘going in the right direction’.

That being said, ‘a total agreement has yet to be found’, suggesting there is still some work to be done to make everyone happy, which would explain the aforementioned delay.

Still, it’s positive news, and Southampton look set to sign a young defender who made 36 league appearances last season for the Ligue 1 side, scoring three goals and assisting another seven.
