Southampton may be handed their second chance to sign striker Yuri Alberto in January as his agent, André Cury, is desperate to get him out of Brazil.
That’s according to journalist Jorge Nicola, via UOL, who reports that the agent is aware of his client’s rising stock as he shines for Corinthians.
Alberto has 23 goals for his side this year and is their top scorer in 2024, facts that have not gone unnoticed by his admirers.
He has been attracting attention for some time and could be a target for clubs outside of Brazil in the January transfer window. Southampton already tried to sign him in the summer but saw their proposal rejected.
Now Nicola has suggested they may be given a second shot as Cury is desperate to secure a move for his client.
“The one who is rubbing his hands together with Yuri Alberto’s success is André Cury, his agent,” UOL report him saying on Os Donos da Bola.
“He is counting on Yuri having a good end to the season to try to negotiate him with an English team in January.
“It’s not a natural move, especially since Corinthians will ask for a truckload of money since they only have 50% (of the player), but André Cury is desperate to get Yuri Alberto out of Corinthians.”
UOL add a little more, explaining that Alberto has been a target of inquiries from European clubs since he arrived at Corinthians.
There was an offer to loan him from Wolves earlier this year and Southampton came in the summer with an offer to buy but this was also rejected.
Cury is determined to find a move, though, and that could see the door open again for the Saints or others in the January transfer window.
