Southampton are today added to the race for South American talent Carlos Alcaraz.
The news comes from Portugal, where newspaper Correio da Manhã features a short story about Benfica having the player as a potential replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who could be leaving them in January.
It’s then said that Southampton, as well as Inter Milan, have already ‘asked’ Argentine side Racing about the player.
Those clubs are claimed to be heavy competition for Benfica, who are now ‘not alone’ in the race for Alcaraz, who, according to the report, is valued at €8.5m.
His agent, however, had different claims regarding the midfielder’s price.
Speaking to the Italian media, he said the initial request would be of €15m, but could be discounted to €12m or even below, depending on the percentage of a future sale that Racing keep in that deal.
Southampton therefore know exactly what they need to do if they want to acquire the talented midfielder.
