Having sold Danny Ings to Aston Villa, Southampton were in dire need of a prolific striker.

Adam Armstrong was immediately brought in from Blackburn for around £16m after he scored 64 goals in 160 games for them, and Armando Broja was also loaned from Chelsea.

However, their quest for goals doesn’t seem to be stopping there if Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna is to be believed, as Alexander Sørloth remains an option for the Saints.

Explaining that Marseille have already had contact with the entourage of the towering Bundesliga striker (1m94), who is currently contracted to RB Leipzig, he also mentions the fact the Norwegian has ‘various options’ other than the Ligue 1 side, ‘notably in England (Southampton) and in Italy’.

Now, that’s not much, and it’s worth pointing out the Saints were linked with him previously, but it’s one to keep an eye on, because you can never have too many prolific goalscorers in your team.

Prior to his six goals in 37 appearances for Leipzig, Sørloth had found the next 33 times in 49 appearances for Trabzonspor in Turkey.

The Marseille interest was also backed up by Nettavisen journalist Stian André de Wahl, whose article also mentions Southampton as one of the clubs being linked of late.
