News from the Argentine press today is saying that Tottenham Hotspur have an agreement to sign the Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios.

The original report comes from Radio Mitre, and has gained big attention since Colombian website Antena 2 made a coverage of it.

The news says that Mauricio Pochettino has personally asked for the signing, after following the player since he arrived at the Buenos Aires side.

It’s claimed that Boca Juniors had planned to increase the player’s release clause from €16m to €20m, but the interest from Tottenham would make him leave the Argentine side before this new contract.

Barrios is a defensive midfielder who’s been pretty solid for Boca Juniors. He’s currently in Russia with the Colombian national team.

In the past couple of years, we’ve seen lots of rumours from the Argentine press linking players to the Premier League and then going nowhere.

This a big claim, and time will tell if it’s true.
