Arsenal have been thrown into the mix for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, with sources close to the player revealing he’s already received approaches.

That’s according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who says Arsenal are ready to potentially battle Tottenham for the Mexican’s signature.

He reports that Arsenal have been monitoring Gimenez for a long tie and have put him on their list of options ahead of the summer transfer window.

They’ve joined rivals Tottenham in showing an interest, with numerous reports over the last week or so stating that Spurs are ramping up their efforts to get him.

Indeed, the latest today claimed that talks have been ongoing for weeks and they are working to get a deal done before the summer transfer window even opens.

They could now face competition from Arsenal, though, who Galetti reports have liked the striker for some time and are very much in the race for him at this moment in time.

The truth is though, claims such as this one feel a little hopeful more than realistic at this point in proceedings.

That is to say, this feels like an attempt by an agent to get Gimenez’s name out there and potentially get something of an auction up and running before the summer. They would certainly benefit from Arsenal and Tottenham going head-to-head.

If that is the case, he might want to have a word with the striker and try to get him back into form before then, with his recent performances and form certainly not indicating he’s ready for a big transfer to the Premier League.
