Spanish newspaper Marca report on Monday that Slaven Bilic has put his foot down and ‘barring an unexpected turn in the next few hours’, Jonathan Calleri will be staying with the club for the rest of the season.
Calleri had been keen to leave and West Ham weren’t shy about considering releasing the player from his loan, but circumstances have worked against a deal. Chiefly, Calleri’s complicated ownership means a deal was always difficult to do, and the player’s father spoke openly about preferring a return to Sao Paulo, rather than moving to another European club.
Las Palmas agreed a deal with Calleri’s owners, but West Ham slowed things down after the Argentine scored his debut goal.
The Spanish club believe they’ve now managed to sign Jese Rodriguez on loan from PSG, and Calleri has slipped away from them.
Marca report this is very much West Ham pulling out, whereas Canarias7, local media to Las Palmas, say it’s the Canary Island club pulling out.
