Gustaf Lagerbielke arrived at Celtic from IF Elfsborg in August 2023 and signed a contract until 2028.

Brendan Rodgers didn’t utilise him regularly last season as he was limited to 576 minutes from 10 matches. The centre-back was restricted to two league appearances this year.

In search of regular game time, Celtic allowed the 24-year-old to join FC Twente on a loan deal in the summer window.

According to Sportbladet, Malmö FF made an attempt to sign the Celtic man before he agreed to join the Eredivisie side.

The Sweden international was ‘on the way’ to Malmö, but he turned them down, without specifying the reason. They ended up signing Colin Rösler from Mjällby AIF.

The outlet claims the Swedish club have concerns with some of their existing centre-backs. This could force them to bring in replacements and they would shift their focus back to the Celtic owned player.

It’s claimed Lagerbielke is the ‘dream name’ for Malmö. Therefore, the report says it won’t be a surprise if they were to make a new attempt to sign him next summer, after his loan spell at Twente.
