Chelsea have been active in the transfer windows since the group led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed the purchase of the Premier League side in May 2022.
The Blues have reportedly invested in excess of €600m in the last two windows to bolster their squad. The lavish spending has also seen the club’s current leadership let some of the players leave the west London club, either on loan or permanent transfers.
Romelu Lukaku was one of the players Chelsea allowed to leave last summer, as the striker joined Inter Milan on a loan deal until the end of this season.
The Nerazzurri don’t have an option or obligation to hold on to the Belgium international beyond the current deal, but Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is of the belief the Serie A side will to extend the striker’s loan deal by trying to use Chelsea’s spending spree to their advantage.
“I think Inter will re-propose the loan for another year,” Di Marzio said, as quoted by InterLive.it.
“However, the figures will be significantly lower than the €8m of last summer, taking advantage of the fact that Chelsea have bought many players and therefore could be in favour of lowering the demands,”
“Clearly, if he doesn’t prove anything between now and June, Inter could also decide not to aim for him anymore. However, considering that Lukaku has done everything to return, I don’t think the Nerazzurri will abandon him.”
Lukaku has scored two goals and managed one assist from 11 matches in all competitions this season for Inter, with injuries keeping him off the field for long spells.
