Newcastle United have decided not to keep Santiago Muniz at the club, according to claims from Mexico.
Journalist Kery writes on Twitter that the Magpies’s choice is now ‘signed, sealed and delivered’.
It’s said Santos Laguna manager Eduardo Fentanes has already ‘confirmed’ that the player will be returning from Newcastle. It’s even claimed that it’s time for Muniz to ‘define his future’, because he doesn’t have a ‘safe place’ at the Mexican club either.
Santiago Muniz joined the Magpies on loan in the summer of 2021. At the time, there was huge coverage from the Mexican media, who related his arrival at St. James’ Park to the story from the film Goal.
The striker, however, failed to convince at Newcastle. He couldn’t have a single minute for the first team, and only had nine appearances for the U-21 side, where he had one goal and one assist.
That made it obvious that the Magpies would not trigger the buying clause over him. Back at Santos Laguna, he has a contract running until 2023.
