It appears that even after being at Liverpool for over two years, closer to three, Ibrahima Konaté still isn’t over the fact he is playing for such a big club.
The player sat down with France TV Info while on international duty to discuss his career to date, and was asked a lot about his time at Anfield.
Signed from RB Leipzig in a €40m deal, the centre-back has become a rock at the back for Liverpool, and is a player many in the Anfield crowd hope will stay for many more years to come.
Whether he does remains to be seen, but he seems to have no desire to move for the time being, as he’s still in awe of the fact he gets to play regularly there when asked what’s so special about the club.
“If I’d had a career plan, it would have been play for Sochaux, then another club, but a team like Liverpool, not before I was 27, 28… I signed at 21, which was exceptional! The fans, the matches, Anfield, You’ll Never Walk Alone…”
The outlet was then keen to find out how he felt when he first heard the stadium since their famous anthem, which many players remember for the rest of their lives, and Konaté is no different.
He added: “I laughed myself silly on the pitch and tried to hide because I was afraid people would think I was crazy. All the players here in the France team who have played there will tell you, it’s a sick experience.”
Konaté had only made 13 appearances for Sochaux before Leipzig came in and took him to Germany, where he first made a real name for himself, playing 95 times for the Bundesliga side.
He was then bought by Liverpool for a lot of money, and has since made 85 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals and assisted two others.
