Marca were always going to love the idea of Diego Costa and Antonio Conte being at war. The fiery striker is a Spanish international and was as well known for his temper in Spanish football, as he is now in England playing for Chelsea.
In their Thursday edition, the Spanish newspaper have a ‘confidencial’ section, and claim to have got their own information of a coming together between the two men.
Everyone knows what happened on the pitch as the two disagreed over a substitution, but Marca say it went much further. It’s claimed ‘shouts and insults’ were shared between the two and it seemed like the two were about to move on to something rather more serious.
Whilst Marca may well be exaggerating with the insinuation of a possible fight, it wouldn’t be too hard to believe some level of tension.
Over the summer, Marca were one of several Spanish newspapers to carry repeat articles about Costa wanting an Atletico Madrid return, something Chelsea and Conte denied him.
On a brighter note, Marca say the two had a meeting on Tuesday and both still have respect for the other, but it’s felt Conte perhaps needs to be less intense in training and during games.
