Jamaal Lascelles and his representatives are meeting with Newcastle United to try and convince them to let him leave on a free transfer and join Beşiktaş.
That’s according to journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, who says the defender is at Newcastle’s ‘clubhouse’ to try and work things out.
Lascelles has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle this month, with the Magpies determined to move some players on from their squad to help bring in money to help them with problems with Financial Fair Play.
Lascelles is one of those who has been identified as one who can depart and Beşiktaş have been working on a potential deal for him as they look to bolster their defence before the end of the transfer window.
A report earlier today indicated that they were growing confident a deal could be struck with Newcastle and Lascelles would be departing at some point in the near future.
Sabuncuoğlu now reports he is working to make that happen, stating that the defender and his representative are ‘at the Newcastle United clubhouse’ to speak to the club about the situation.
According to him he has asked for permission from the Magpies to go to Beşiktaş on a free transfer, given his contract expires in six months’ time.
Whether Newcastle will sanction that, given they need money and this is an opportunity to get it and not lose Lascelles on a free, remains to be seen.
