Liverpool star Diogo Jota has opened up about Jurgen Klopp’s departure from the club at the end of the season.
The winger was this week interviewed by DAZN Portugal, and with the manager recently revealing his Anfield exit, there were some inevitable questions about that.
Quoted by A Bola, Jota explained how tough it was for Liverpool players to hear that, as that was unexpected news for all involved.
“It was a shock for everyone, that’s the reality. I don’t think anyone in the dressing room was expecting to hear news like that, especially since this season is going so well. But it’s not up to us to make that decision, just to accept it. It will be a problem later on, knowing who the coach will be next season and so on,” said Jota.
Regarding the possibility of having a bigger motivation to win the league for the manager, Jota claimed that’s always the mentality at Liverpool.
“We still have a lot to fight for this season. So we have to focus on what we have to do on the pitch and also, in a way, make his legacy more colourful with a few trophies. That’s what we want, just as we wanted before he announced his decision, because obviously we always want to win.”
Jota has 13 goals and three assists in 25 appearances for Liverpool this season, having scored one in the 4-1 win over Chelsea this week.
Since returning from a muscle injury at the end of the year, the winger has four goals and two assists in four Premier League games, and has been of big importance for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the race for the title.
On top of the league table, Liverpool now prepare for the tough clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
