Since the start of the season, there have been many stories claiming that Tottenham were interested in Marcus Thuram.
The reason for that is obvious, as the player was expected to run down his contract; a move which has since been made official by his club on Thursday.
Borussia Mönchengladbach, via their director of football Roland Virkus, confirmed that both the Tottenham target and Ramy Bensebaini would be leaving on a free this summer for pastures anew.
He said: “We were in open discussions with both players and knew the situation. It’s a shame that they won’t be extending their current contracts, which expire in the summer, because both of them have given us a lot from a sporting perspective over the past four years.”
For Tottenham, this could be the ideal situation to try and get a talented player on a free transfer, who also has plenty of experience.
As well as starring for Borussia Mönchengladbach, the forward is also a France international and helped his country’s national team get back into the World Cup final against Argentina when subbed on during the first-half.
Tottenham have been said to be after Thuram since the first half of the season, and have continued to be named as a potential landing spot for the player going into 2023, with it said they could face competition from Atletico Madrid.
