Leeds United are in the driving seat to secure promotion to the Premier League as they are currently leading the Championship table.

The Whites are level on points with second placed Burnley and five ahead of Sheffield United, who are in the third spot.

Leeds have started planning for the summer window and have Sporting’s Hidemasa Morita in their list.

Thursday’s edition of Record reports Daniel Farke’s side are ‘very interested’ in the 29-year-old.

With Leeds almost securing their return to the top division, they are a ‘serious candidate’ to sign the defensive midfielder.

If they get promoted, the newspaper explains the English club will make a concrete offer for the Japan international. There’s no mention of the deal they will offer or the fee the Lions will request.

Morita has less than 15 months on his contract and Sporting haven’t managed to tie him down a new deal. The next window will be their last chance to earn a fee and avoid losing him for free in 2026.

The player is eyeing a move to another league in the summer. This should please Leeds, but they will only be able to sign Morita if they return to the Premier League.
