On Tuesday, we noticed that a few articles regarding Napoli and Chelsea’s David Luiz surfaced, claiming the Serie A side were putting aside €30m (or £26m) to buy the Brazilian centre-back.

Everyone quoted Il Mattino as the source, so we decided to have a look.

Surely enough, in the sports section of the local newspaper is indeed an article about Napoli having an interest in David Luiz, spread out over three quarters of the page.

However, and this is the crucial part, at no point do Il Mattino mention a fee when it comes to the Chelsea defender.

The headline “MERET, 30 MILIONI” and “IDEA DAVID LUIZ” is perhaps a bit misleading, but the €30m amount is linked to the Udinese goalkeeper, not the former Paris Saint-Germain star.

We even had a look on their website just in case they had a different version of the story on there, but the online copy still doesn’t include a price tag.

In the body of the article, the newspaper explain that ‘in London, they are certain that David Luiz is ready to say yes to the offer of Napoli’ and that ‘preparative work is underway’.

The Chelsea man would be agreeing to a three-year deal, and, with Carlo Ancelotti’s blessing, this is a deal that could ‘soon take place’.

As for the amount, well, we’ll have to wait for that.
