The situation surrounding Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy seems to have calmed down a bit after a brief flurry of excitement regarding a move to Galatasaray, and another option could become available.
According to Il Tempo in Italy, and their Friday edition, the 30-year-old is one of the players Luciano Spalletti is considering as the Italian manager looks to bolster Roma’s defence with a new right-back ahead of the coming season.
Having let Maicon leave after a few years of service, the Serie A team came close to securing a deal for Pablo Zabaleta, but Pep Guardiola got in the way of that, wanting to play him and all that.
The Italian newspaper state Spalletti ‘hasn’t lost sight’ of the once French international as they monitor what is going on at Arsenal.
Debuchy is said to have come close to a move to Roma in the past when Rudi Garcia, previously at Lille, tried to bring him when in charge of the Serie A club, and now could be his chance.
The Frenchman certainly seems out of favour at Arsenal, with Bellerin the clear starter in Wenger’s eyes, and with Chambers and Holding both capable of playing at right-back, a move away for Debuchy seems like the best option for all parties, even if it is just a loan.
The former Lille star also spent the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux.
