The French media are absolutely insistent that there’s something going on with Everton and Bordeaux’s Malcom and that a transfer could happen soon. In contrast, media close to the Merseyside club have dismissed the claims.
It’s not an unusual situation, transfers for Premier League sides often break outside of the country and are followed by denials from the English club to their local media. Alisson to Liverpool would be a prime example of that.
That said, it may be an agent trying to build a deal to take back to Everton, but it certainly doesn’t seem to be something the French media have plucked from thin air.
Everton fans should probably be excited about the potential move. Despite a slightly disappointing second half of the season, probably fuelled by his head being all over the place after wanting a January move, Malcom was one of Ligue 1’s best players during the last campaign.
He finished the season with a flurry. Three goals, an assist and two Man of the Match performances came in Malcom’s last three Ligue 1 games. That took him to 12 goals and 7 assists in 35 French league matches.
A feature over at Marca should be interesting for Everton. The Spanish newspaper has picked up a Soccerex report on the most valuable footballers aged 21 years and under.
First up is Kylian Mbappe, with an estimated value of €192.3m, that sounds roughly about right, although it’d likely cost more to take him from PSG.
Marcus Rashford is second on €89.1m, Gabriel Jesus third on €88m and Ousmane Dembele’s estimated worth is €84.3m which places him fourth.
And then comes Malcom on €64.6m.
The report rates him as more valuable that Leon Bailey, Ryan Sessegnon, Vinicius Junior and all the others making up the top 20.
That’s pretty impressive. The values of the top four don’t look too far from reality, but the €64.6m for Malcom could be double what Everton may be able to sign him for.
