As the summer window approaches, Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves is slowly becoming a strong story in the Portuguese media.

On Sunday, newspaper Record featured a story claiming Spurs are ‘closing in’ on the winger, as the London side started contacts to get that signing done.

Now on Monday, it’s time for A Bola to feature a story about this chase, claiming that after signing Pedro Porro in January, Tottenham now want Gonçalves, who’s better known as Pote.

It’s said that even though Spurs are still to make an official bid for the 24-year-old, their interest in the player is ‘really real’ and the first approaches have already taken place.

A Bola writes that Tottenham’s wish to sign the player has only grown following his performances in London, where he faced Spurs in the Champions League and Arsenal in the Europa League.

Pote is protected by a €80m release clause, and that’s why Sporting are said to be ‘calm’ about the possibility of losing him in the summer.

Playing for the Lions this season, the winger has 19 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances.
