Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has revealed how winning three titles in one season at former club Celtic is inspiring him to repeat the trick with the Germans this season.

The full-back has been speaking to Kicker about his career to date and his time spent at Celtic, which it seems has given him the hunger for success with the Bundesliga leaders.

Frimpong is currently one of the hottest properties in Europe after enjoying a quick rise at Leverkusen over the last few years, particularly since Xabi Alonso’s arrival at the club.

He’s likely to be targeted by a host of Premier League clubs this season thanks to his performances, although it remains to be seen if he can be tempted away now that Alonso has committed his future to the German side.

It’s been a career of steady progression for the 23-year-old so far after he started his career with Manchester City’s youth sector and worked his way up to the Under 23s by 2019.

At that point he made the decision to leave the Etihad and try his luck with Celtic, a choice that worked out well for both parties as he went on to establish himself in the first team and enjoy success too, winning the treble of Scottish title, cup and league cup in the 2019/20 season.

Those trophies remain the only ones in his collection to date, but he admits they gave him a hunger for more as he chases another potential treble with Leverkusen.

“It was my season,” he said about his Celtic success.

“Winning three titles at such a young age was an incredible feeling. I like winning titles – as many as possible.

“I’m in Leverkusen at the moment. It’s an exciting season. My whole focus is on that. I’m not worried about whether I stay or things like that.”
