On Saturday, Aston Villa settled for a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at home and Unai Emery was forced to withdraw both Emiliano Martínez and Youri Tielemans due to injuries.

The goalkeeper, who received medical assistance for a thigh injury, didn’t return to the pitch in the second half, while the midfielder was replaced in the 27th minute.

Emery has confirmed setbacks for the two players and insisted that Aston Villa have to accept the situation.

Infobae state the Argentina international has undergone tests to find out the extent of the damage.

There have been claims stating that the 31-year-old ‘hasn’t suffered a tear but a strain’ on his thigh. Infobae relay that and add the former Arsenal man will be out of action for at least two weeks, meaning he won’t be available until his side face Liverpool on May 13th.

Despite this, Martínez’s entourage have informed them that he aims to return for the second leg of the UEFA Conference League clash against Olympiacos on May 9th.

Whilst obviously a blow, it’s something of a relief that the situation isn’t worse.

Meanwhile, Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg claim Tielemans has suffered a groin injury.

The 26-year-old midfielder underwent scans on Sunday and the test results showed that there’s ‘no serious damage’. Although the injury doesn’t seem to be ‘too bad’, it isn’t ideal for Emery and Aston Villa, who are looking to finish this season in the top four.

Aston Villa are currently fourth in the table, seven points ahead of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur and the latter have two games in hand.
