Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez was the subject of concrete interest from Nottingham Forest in the summer window.
Nottingham Forest made multiple offers before their bid was accepted by the Dutch club. The striker, however, wasn’t in favour of joining the Reds.
Feyenoord are in the Champions League while Nottingham Forest haven’t qualified for Europe. Earlier this month, the 23-year-old cited the European football as the reason for snubbing the Premier League side.
The Mexico international has given an interview to TUDN and his comments are relayed by 1908.nl. He would have fulfilled his dream of playing in one of the top five European leagues by accepting a move to Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
“From the moment I came here I was told, and I saw, that this club trains and sells players. I have seen it in the last transfer window, where 15 players have been sold,” he said.
“That also gives you the confidence that if you do well, your dream of playing in the top five leagues in the world will come closer. I know that can happen at some point, and I try to train hard every day. We’ll see what happens.”
The Mexican arrived in Europe when Feyenoord signed him from Cruz Azul in July 2022. He was instrumental in helping the club win the title in his debut season.
Giménez, who is currently on the sidelines due to an injury, has managed 53 goals and 13 assists from 93 games for Feyenoord.
